Day 2 on the Ghan – Smoking

23rd August 2007 – Day 2 on the Ghan – A knock on the door

Late last night, around 00:15 (so technically day 3) I received a knock on the door… it was the train manager.

The Ghan is totally non-smoking and earlier in the day the train manager had been through the coach talking to people as a smell of cigarette smoke had been reported (there was a smell of smoke the night before, and again first thing this morning). Again, this evening, around 22:00 there was a smell of smoke. And, at midnight the train manager knocked on my door and asked if I had been smoking. He seemed to be very suspicious of me, and seemed to think it was me (this is what I get for being 20 years younger than most of the other travelers), and he certainly gave the room a good look over… apparently the smell had been reported as coming from my room…..
