Well, mapped.at, along with MMISoftware is sponsoring Team Minor Problems in the 2007 Mongol Rally.

MMISoftware are providing ‘kit’ (read their post), and mapped.at is providing ‘back-end’ support and analysis of the GPS (GPS units at Amazon) data collected by the guys as they drive from London to Mongolia.

The ‘kit’ provided by MMISoftware consists of Garmin Geko (available from Amazon) to provide the current location (latitude and longitude), as well enabling them to ‘track’ the number of miles they do each day, and their average speed; and a Palm T3 (Amazon link)to write blog posts, which can then be zipped using HandZipper (Handwatch) (HandZipper compresses the text in to a smaller file so it is quicker, easier and cheaper to send) before being sent using Bluetooth to Mobile phone for attachment to an email, along with any photos.

In addition, Team Minor Problems will be able to produce a GPS (GPS at Amazon) track record of their adventure using a Sony GPS Data Logger (available from Amazon) provided by MMISoftware

Meanwhile, as the boys are driving east mapped.at will be updating their blog and analyzing their GPS log files…

This will provide an ideal opportunity to beta test some of the new software…
