mapping, tracking, tagging and GPS

Welcome to the mapped.at blog…

So what is this all about?

mapped.at is a new site that looks at all things to do with GPS (GPS at Amazon) tracking and tagging – these include:

  • Mac OS X software to match GPS data with photos for geocoding of pictures (PhotoGPSEditor)
  • Mac OS X software to add geocoding meta-data to photos (PhotoInfoEditor)
  • Mac OS X software to generate Google Earth kml and kmz files from GPS data (in development)
  • Mac OS X software to edit Google Earth kml and kmz (in development)
  • Mac OS X software to generate geocoding data to add to websites (in development)
  • Mac OS X software to plot current location (taken from a Bluetooth GPS unit) on a map in real-time

And it is not all Mac OS X (available from Amazon). There will also be:

  • an online service which can be used to post your current location to share with friends and family (currently in beta development)
  • a mobile phone program for posting your current location to the webservice (currently in beta development)
  • a mobile phone specific interface to allow a user to locate friends and family that have posted their location at mapped.at (currently in beta development)

A number of the above products (PhotoGPSEditor and PhotoInfoEditor) already exist and will be made available shortly. The other products will be rolled out as they become ready… so, watch this space!
